Owera Vineyards is located at the northeast corner of Cazenovia Lake and sits on 58 acres of rolling hills, beautiful trees, and picturesque vineyards. Nestled in the back of our property, our building will house our winemaking production, wine tasting area, and educational kitchen.
Our goal is to create jobs, promote agri-tourism, and invest back into the community using the following three principles which create our core standard:
Community Based Farming and Agribusiness
Our organic garden and orchards will continue to benefit local food pantries such as Caz Cares and the Syracuse Food Bank. In addition, we will use the fruits and vegetables from our garden on site during events and community festivals. Our plan is to build a foundation of sustainable and responsible farming practices while continuing our practice of giving back to the community.
Grape Growing and Wine Production
In 2011, we will celebrate our first harvest from our 4 acres of Marquette and Frontenac Gris grapes grown on our property. This will be a wonderful opportunity for community involvement and education as we invite the public to participate in the harvest and begin learning about the winemaking process. In addition to the grapes grown on our property, it will be necessary for us to purchase grapes from other local growers thereby reinvesting in the local economy.
Education
As Madison County’s first winery, we have the privilege of sharing our knowledge with a very eager audience who wouldn’t normally have the ability to visit a facility right in their back yard. A large portion of our business will be dedicated to the education of, not only the general public, but students from local colleges and universities. We have enjoyed our partnership with Morrisville State College in the form of recurring internships. We are working to strengthen our strategic partnerships with other local colleges and universities to use our facility as an incubator to attract and retain local talent.
By keeping our focus on farming, wine production, and education, we feel as though Owera Vineyards will become a destination property for agri-tourists, community organizations, regional companies, individuals, and local schools. |
