Some quick updates on the status of our projects!

When you drive by our property, you’ll probably see Tim out in the vineyard pruning back the vines in preparation for Spring in hopes of a summer more similar to 2010 than 2011. He’s also just completed a re-trellising project in our vineyard to make the vines easier to work with this year. We celebrated our first harvest in 2011 with an amazing yield of Marquette and Frontenac Gris grapes that have turned into some complex and delicious wines! Martha, Josh and the winemaking team continue to rack, filter, fine and perform tasting trials in preparation for bottling our 2011 portfolio. Meanwhile, our 2010 wines continue to sell rapidly through our online store, at McKinnon’s Liquors right in Cazenovia as well as at the Brae Loch Inn, Brewster Inn, and the Lincklaen House.

Kristie, Jane and the sales team are busy putting together the spring schedule of events where Owera will be attending. Check our new events tab located above to see “O’where is Owera?”. Give Kristie a call if you are hosting an event that you think Owera might be a good fit OR if you would like to host an event at Owera in the future.

And, of course, the question I receive most often is, “WHEN ARE YOU OPENING A TASTING ROOM?!?!?” Here is the skinny; our engineers are putting the final touches on the plans for our production facility. Our 6,000 sq. ft. “barn” will house all of our winemaking, storage, warehousing, and a small tasting room.  This portion of the project should be completed and open by the 4th of July. Construction on our larger tasting room/community events facility will also begin this year. If all goes as planned, this building should be completed and open to the public by Spring 2013.

Looking back over the last year, I could not have envisioned a more perfect scenario for our inaugural year at Owera. Soon, we hope that you will join us by bringing your family and friends to Owera to relax, enjoy the wine and the view.
